Play dough!!

What children learn: Play dough play at home or school supports development and learning in many areas. When children use play dough, they explore ideas and try different approaches until they find one that works. They compare and contrast objects ("Mine’s a fat pancake and yours is skinny”), actions ("No, don’t cut it! Scrape it, like this”), and experiences ("We’re not making a snake—we’re making a road”). In their experimenting, children come up with their own ideas, satisfy their curiosity, and analyze and solve problems. These are all skills that help children learn and succeed in school.

Toy blocks!!

Research suggests that kids become friendlier and more socially-savvy when they work on cooperative construction projects. Block play has been linked with math skills, too. Kids can put together blocks in a variety of ways, block play is divergent play. And divergent play with blocks may prepare kids to think creatively and better solve divergent problems.

Discussion!!

Parents are often concerned about discussions. What if the children do not want to talk? What if everyone says the same thing? What if everyone tries talk at the same time? How can you make sure that discussions are appropriate for the ages of the children? Ground rules might include having only one person talking at a time, not "putting down" or insulting others, and accepting differences of opinion. This will help the kids to be open with anything comes in their mind and learn to communicate more.
